When I was a teenager, my dream was dancing on Broadway. I had started dancing when I was very young and at the age of 17 I knew I was destined for greatness. But life doesn’t always turn out the way we plan. Fortunately for me, a better plan was waiting in the wings. I met a fabulous guy and quickly I found myself burning toast and using dish soap to clean the toilet. (Not a good idea, by the way!)
Living in an apartment, we had white walls and brown carpet, certainly not a decorator’s dream. We had one picture hung on the wall, which later fell and smashed our stereo!
I couldn’t group pictures together or arrange furniture into a comfortable setting to save my life and our house felt sterile and not a place that we really wanted to spend time in. It was a couple of Christmases, and two children later, that I had my “Aha” moment. A very nice lady from church brought over a little basket with some home-made goodies as a holiday gift. The food was wonderful and even the basket was home-made. How cool would it be if I could do that? There was no reason that I couldn’t! So, through experimentation, a few little classes here and there, and lots and lots of trial and error, I began making some progress towards the elusive “Domestic Diva” status. But even the smallest of triumphs gave me more motivation to be better.
So now we jump forward to present day. I love to cook, I know how to clean a toilet properly, and decorating my home is a passion. All crafts, scrapbooking, making my own throw pillows, choosing wall colors and fabric patterns for the guest room, designing my herb garden, and everything in between gives me great pleasure. I have learnt how to turn my house into my home, making it THE place I want to be.
Today you are reading my story because we may share some of the same experiences. If you want a way to make fun, interesting, and lovely additions to your home, then you have come to the right place.
