I hope you like my latest craft video, Washer Necklaces. I have had a lot of fun making several necklaces for my family and friends and everyone just loves them. What a great gift that shows how much you care.

As my children have grown up over the years, and their gifts to me have gotten more practical, and store bought, I have to admit that I miss the old days of a clay hand print, or an odd-looking sculpture, or a woven basket being given to me with so much pride in their eyes. Why do we think that the older we get and the more money we have our gift-giving should change? I was cleaning out some shelves a couple of weeks ago and came across a basket my son made for me his first year at scout camp. He brought it home and gave it to me for my birthday. I remember it like it was yesterday. He didn’t think I would like it. Boy was he wrong! While I may not use it much, I will treasure it forever! Why? Because he spent hours making it for me.

While the gifts may be different, and hopefully more useful, I love that feeling of giving someone I love a gift that I took time and effort to make specifically for them. It shows we care. It shows we have thought about that person’s likes, interests, and tastes. We can give them something no one else will give them. And I will always love the question, “You made this? This is awesome!”
